Allama Iqbal belonged to a family that came by Islam in the 17th century. He got many titles as Shaeer-e-Mashriq, Hakeem-Ul-Ummat as well. Biography of Allama Iqbal

Allama Iqbal’s life history was full of hardships but it was all controlled by the hard work, diligence, and sincerity of him. He devoted himself to Allah Almighty and was a true believer in Allah. He believed in Allah 🕋 and awakened the Muslims who were in deep sleep through his motivational poetry and poems. A historian presents a true and complete picture of his age. Iqbal’s Birth Prediction

Few days before the birth of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, his father Noor Muhammad dreamed that a pigeon is wandering in the sky 🌃. And many people are trying to trap the bird 🐦. But later the pigeon dropped and fall into the lap of Noor Muhammad. He predicted it as the birth of a baby boy who will serve the Muslim community. Later, Iqbal was born 👶 on 9th November 1877 in Sialkot at the time of Fajar Prayers. Therefore, he named his boy as Muhammad Iqbal (Iqbal meaning Prosperity).

Birth Date Conflict

According to a book Inqilab, Iqbal was born 👶 in December in 1876 and according to the Hijri calendar, it corresponds between 23rd to 24th Zilhaj. But if we consider it right according to the book Inqilab, his age while passing matric level would be 21 and the average student who passes the matric level is only 16. Moreover, in January 1939, Iqbal day was celebrated in Lahore and the age of Allama Iqbal was announced as 60. This shows the accuracy of Iqbal’s birth in 1873. Iqbal sister gave evidence that Iqbal was born 👶 on the early morning 🌅 of Friday but the 22nd of February, 1873 was not Friday.

Allama Iqbal Early Life and Education

Iqbal’s father was a religious person. Therefore, he focused on providing Islamic education to his children 👶. Iqbal also learned Qur’an and other Islamic teachings from the nearby Madrassah (Islamic institution). Iqbal was a brilliant student. Therefore, Syed Mir Hassan personally educates him for 2.5 years. Syed Mir was a good friend 👬 of Noor Muhammad and also understood the importance of education for Muslims. Hence, he enforced Noor to admit Iqbal in Mission School 🎒. At the age of 7 years, Iqbal got admitted to a mission school in Class 1. Due to his intelligence, he completed 7 years of education in 6 years. Syed Mir Hassan also provides home tuitions to the students.

As mentioned above, Syed Mir Hassan was struggling to promote education among Muslims. He was also known to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Mir Hassan also participated in the Muslim education Conference. He also attended the foundation ceremony of Ali Garh College. Iqbal was also familiar with Sir Syed and Ali Garh Collage due to Mir Hassan. Hobbies of Allama Iqbal

History says Allama Muhammad Iqbal was a very intelligent student. He was fond of studies but not a nerd. He was good in games, make mischiefs, and love kite flying. Moreover, he also does pigeon 🐦rearing and wrestling exercises. Syed Muhammad Taqi and  Lalu Pehlwan were his good friends.

Iqbal’s Wedding and Family 👫

When the matriculation result was declared, Iqbal was wearing a groom dress and was ready to travel towards Gujrat (Barat). He married Kareem Bibi 👰 who belonged to a Kashmiri family. At that time, Iqbal was 16 while his wife was 21 years old. Child marriage was not considered weird at that time. Later, Iqbal’s writings showed that he was not happy with this married.

History of Allama Muhammad Iqbal shows that Iqbal and Kareem Bibi were blessed with two kids 👫, Mairaj Bibi and Aftab Iqbal. Mairaj Bibi becomes ill and died due to the Struma. Whereas, Kareem Bibi died in 1946, 8 years later after the death of Iqbal. She was buried in Gujrat. Afterwards, Iqbal married a lady named Sarfar Begham and blessed with a boy named Javed Iqbal. Later, hi married Mukhtar Begum in 1914.

Higher Education of Allama Iqbal

Iqbal passed his matriculation at the age of 16. He was awarded medals and scholarships 🎓. Then he got admitted to Mission College and passed his intermediate education (F.A). He passed the intermediate secondary education in the second division. Hence, he moved towards Lahore because further education was not started at Mission College. He got admitted to Government College Lahore. However, he stayed in Quadrangle Hostel Room no. 1 for 4 years. In their bachelor’s (B.A), he took English, Philosophy, and Arabic as major subjects. Iqbal passed the bachelor’s examination 🎓 and got 2nd division. Moreover, it is also reported that 105 students appeared in the exams where four of them got 1st division. While others along with Iqbal got 2nd division. However, Iqbal stood first among the Muslims.

Later, he did his Master’s in philosophy. He remained a professor there at Government College for some time and went to Trinity College, Cambridge England later on. Iqbal also taught Arabic at London University for six months. On his return from England, he started practising law but he didn’t like it much. His major interest 💭 was in poetry and national issues.

Starting Career

After passing the Master, Iqbal was appointed Macleod Arabic Reader in Oriental College, Lahore in 1899. His monthly salary was 72 Rupees and 14 annas 💰 (1/16th part of a rupee) only. He served here for four years at Oriental College. Whereas, he also worked in Government College as an Assistant Professor of English. Iqbal also taught English at Islamia College.  He also appeared and passed the competitive examination 🎓 of Extra Assistant Commissioners. But he was considered unfit. Because his right eyesight 👓 was weak.

History of Allama Muhammad Iqbal- As a Poet

Iqbal was a famous poet and his first poetry published in a Delhi magazine, ”Zubaan”. At the same time, is was a student of famous poet Dagh Dehlwi. Besides this, Iqbal also participated in poetry competitions at school 🎒. He also loved ❤️️ to read poetry in front of the ladies in his family during his childhood.

Allama Iqbal has expressed his emotions ❤️️ through his poetry. Iqbal poetry comprises of three phases of his life. The first phase showed patriotism and symbolism during his stay in England. The second phase highlighted vanished, divine and holy morals and ethics. However, the last part is full of his vocation after 1930.  

Famous poetry of Allama Iqbal includes the Bal-e-Jibril (Wings of Gabriel), Bang-e-Dara, Zarb-e-Kaleem, Asrar-e-Khudi (Secrets of the Self), Kulyat-e-Iqbal, and many more.

Concept of Khudi (Self)

Persian poetry of Iqbal includes Asrar-e-Khudi which describes the concept of Khudi meaning Self. He says that Self is related to Rooh or Soul which exists in every human being. It is the thing that made Adam superior to Angels. Moreover, Rumuz-e-Bekhudi (Hints of Selflessness) is another book of Allama Iqbal in which he describes that the Islamic lifestyle is the best way to follow for the country’s stability.

Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa

The famous Allama Iqbal poetry in Urdu includes Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa. Shikwa is the first part in which a frustrated Muslim is complaining the Allah Almighty while the second portion Jawab-e-Shikwa is a reply to how Allah 🕋 will address the protest of Muslims. However, Shikwa poetry in Urdu got discouragement from some Muslim Scholars. Later, it became a well know concept all over the world 🗺 till now.

Books of Allama Iqbal in English

Allama Iqbal also wrote famous books in English. Names of Allama Iqbal books 📚 are “The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam” and “The Development of Metaphysics in Persia”. He discussed the Islamic Sufism 🕋 and Persian philosophy. Moreover, he shared his views about Muslim culture, reasoning, the importance of petition, human soul, and other religious, social, and governmental issues.

Two-Nation Theory 💭

Allama Iqbal gave a concept of Two- Nation Theory and Pakistan. He shared his opinion that Muslims should live in a separate nation where they can follow their religious beliefs without any fear. The famous Allahabad Address of Iqbal describes that Muslims have a separate religion, language, and beliefs. Therefore, they should be a separate portion of India for Muslim Indians.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is the founder of Pakistan. Allama Iqbal played an appreciating role in convincing Jinnah to come back to India and join the Muslim League. Allama Iqbal died due to throat illness on 21st April 1938. His tomb is situated in Lahore near Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort. Iqbal’s last home 🏠 was “Javed Manzil”. But Iqbal will remain alive in the hearts ❤️️ of poetry lovers, Muslims, and the Pakistani nation.
